Region 1 had successful outreaches in schools in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Virginia. The response from students and administrators alike continues to amaze me. The message of “You’re not born a winner. You’re not born a loser. You’re born a chooser” continues to challenge young people to make right choices while encouraging them with a message of hope! In two of the areas where we had a pro speaking in the schools we also held an evening “Victory Party”. This offered parents and friends of Sports World opportunity to hear of the response in schools and meet the pro personally. The most commonly reported response from the Victory Party was “I can’t believe the passion of the Sports World Pro and staff and their heart to help hurting youth.”

It is this passion that drives us to do what we do. We are currently scheduling for the fall semester. Fall is a great time to have a pro in your area schools. It is a great way to kick-off the school year and of course football season! We have already booked outreaches in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. To book a pro in your area this fall, just give a call to one of the numbers listed below:

Spring is winding to a close. Over 100,000 students have heard the program this Spring alone and we are setting up the Fall schools now. The need is greater than ever before. I saw a number of student comment cards this spring, but two in particular haunt me. Let me share them with you. The pro was speaking in a Middle School and a 8th grade boy wrote: “The talk was motivational. I’m going through DHS and a lot more. My Mom passed.” Then there was another card from the same assembly, written by a 6th grade girl: “I think it was amazing, your talk gave a good message. I am going through dealing with foster care and my mom died with the drug thing.” A brother and a sister from a Middle School trying to cope with losing their Mother to drugs, and the loss of their home/family. There are so many hurting children out there. They need to hear that someone cares about them. Please call me today and see how you can make a difference in the lives of the students in your area next School year.

The last time I wrote a blog I was reporting how School personnel contacted us to have our Pro in to speak to the students as well as parents about Making Right Choices. . . as a follow up to that outreach, I can tell you the we received a warm thank you note with a check enclosed from the parents “Booster Club”. They wanted to “pay it forward” so another school could have the benefit of hearing our Pro share with the students! The need is greater than ever before. It is good to know that parents from a Booster Club see tremendous value in the program to the students and want to help other schools have the program too. Call today and see how you can become involved in reaching out to the students in your area.

During a Fall Outreach Pro Speaker Don McNeal had the opportunity to share his life story with students. Through the experiences that Don McNeal went through he was able to share with students the importance of making positive choices and never giving up on their dreams and goals. One 6th grader wrote after the assembly, “Mr. McNeal I think your talk was very inspirational.” An 11th grader wrote, “Very influential speech. I wish we had more speakers like you.” A 7th grader wrote, “Usually I talk at these things but this one made me want to listen. I enjoyed it.” Another student wrote, “Never give up. My life philosophy is to be the best and more. Never back down. Your words inspired me to keep my dreams.” Students need encouragement to pursue their dreams and reach their goals. Don McNeal was able to encourage students to chase after their dreams and to make positive choices for their lives. If you would like to have a Pro come to your school contact us at 1-800-832-6546 or email us at info@sportsworld.org.

When a Sports World Pro speaks to an assembly of students he or she touches on the importance of staying drug and alcohol free. In today’s world it is not uncommon for students to go to parties that are centered on drinking and drug use. Sometimes students feel that giving into peer pressure is easier than going against the crowd. We have received many comments from students thanking the Pros for sharing with them the importance of not drinking or using drugs and the consequences of abusing these substances. One student wrote, “It was a very good speech and it makes me not want to drink or smoke or do drugs. Thank you for coming to talk to us.” Another student wrote, “This speech helped me better understand what drugs can do to me, and helped me understand why not to do them.” It is our hope that every student will understand the side effects and consequences of drinking and using drugs and will make positive choices even if everyone around them is doing it.

Spring kicked off last week in Chicago and nearby suburbs with former Indiana University basketball player and 8-year NFL pro with the Cincinnati Bengals Ken Johnson speaking to young people about never, ever giving up! Ken shared how while he was being cut from his junior high basketball team he had no idea a 6’6” 260lb NFL Defensive End was inside of him. He challenged the young people to make the right choices because each and every one of them had greatness inside of them selves, and it was up to them to unlock it.

April and May will be full of other Sports World Pros bringing a message of Hope and stories from their own lives to both challenge and encourage students in western Iowa; Charleston, IL; Indianapolis/Fishers, IN; Schaumburg and suburban Chicagoland, IL; Terre Haute, IN; Des Moines, IA; and Logansport, IN. It’s going to be a great spring!

Victory Parties were established by Sports World to assist with building awareness of the organization, raise funds, and provide an opportunity for others to get involved with Sports World through volunteer opportunities and other programs as well.

There are many purposes behind each Victory Party. First of all we want to show our gratitude to those who have helped make each outreach a success through volunteering their time and through financial contributions. Victory Parties are also a way for Sports World to show how lives have been impacted and transformed through the Sports World Program, as well as give communities the opportunity to get involved with each outreach.

The benefits of having a victory party is it will allow Sports World to gain additional resources, such as donations and volunteers. It will well help to build unity in communities as well as build awareness about what students are facing today.

To find out if there is a Victory Party happening in your area please email us at info@sportsworld.org
