Midwest News

I just returned from a trip to Missouri and Oklahoma to meet with some of my Team Captains.  What awesome men!  What an encouragement for me to meet with them and hear their concern for the youth and see them plan to bring a pro into their areas next fall!  I had the pleasure of meeting a Superintendent who listened to our presentation and his response was to immediately want to set up an event that would encompass 7 schools in his area!  It is good to know that there are people, nation wide, who do care about the children.  What a pleasure it is to work side by side with them to make a difference in young lives.

Region 3 - May update

Today’s youth are facing things that we never dreamed or thought of.  Below are  a few comments from students we shared with this year.  We are in a unique position to touch their lives and make a difference with every assembly we give.  Please contact us and find out how you can help to touch the lives of young people in your area today!

“I thought the asmley was cool.  I cut my self til I bleed and leave scars”7th Grade

I loved the assembly and I thought what you said was so true.  I was in foster care because my parents do drugs and they don’t know how to quit.”6th Grade

“I thought it was amazing.  I need help.  It’s like no 1 hears me.” 7th Grade

“Thank you for coming to my school to teach us about peer pressure.  I really liked learning about ideal role models.  I really liked learning about how people can try to make you get farther away from our goals.  You were very exciting to watch and learn from.  Thank you for taking time out of your day to help me and others.  Thank you for teaching me and everyone else to succeed in life and do whatever we want.  I will use what you taught me forever in life.”12th Grade

April Region 3 news

The air is beginning to become warm and flowers are in bloom!  I am so ready for the new life of Spring!  This past winter has been extremely difficult for most states around the nation.  Due to the severe weather, we have had to move, cancel and reschedule many area outreaches.  The economy has made it difficult as well.  I would guess that everyone is ready for warm weather, green grass and sun shiny days.

Our focus today is on finishing strong this Spring, and setting up a stronger Fall!  The above listed obstacles have hampered our efforts this Spring; but I am hearing new life and hope for better days to come in the voices of the men and women I speak with each day.  Moving ever forward, no need to look back we press towards the goal!

Why do I continue to press on?  Because I know that I am working with many people across my region who want to make a difference in the lives of young people.  Listen to what an Assistant Principal wrote: “It was with apprehension that I reluctantly accepted your offer for the assembly.  Our past experiences with motivational speakers has been less than what would be desired.  It is now with great appreciation that I thank you for the opportunity you gave our students in meeting your pro.”  Hard winter?  Yes.  Bad economy, yes again.  But, we are making a difference and people still care.  Watch the Easter flowers grow and feel the bright hope for tomorrow in them.

Hope

The cold winds and snow of winter are blowing today; just as cold winds are blowing in the hearts of so many young people. Spring will be coming to us soon with green grass and flowers blooming all around us. The warm breezes will give each one of us hope for the new life that will soon be revealed. Students in America need to feel that warmth in their lives, just as each of us do. They need to have hope for their country and their future. Sports World pro athletes give the students the hope that they are looking for. Working with school administrators it is our desire to let youth know that they are not experiencing anything in life that the adults around them have not faced. And, that people care about them and the choices they are making today.

One Junior wrote: "Your talk inspired me to be a better person and to respect my parents."

A Freshman said: "You really helped me a lot! Thank you!"

A Senior from rural America said: "I think 'In God We Trust' is sadly disappearing in our country."

Being a better person, respectful, feeling as if they got a cold drink of water and were helped by the Pro Athletes talk. That and so much more is what Sports World is about. If we think that young people do not see or hear what is happening in this country today, we are mistaken. They recognize that "In God we trust" is disappearing from our core beliefs. They are looking for values and something to stand for. A purpose in life. Help us to give them Hope in their own futures as well as ours. The young people today are "our future", we must equip them the best way we can. The voice of the former Pro Athlete is a voice they will listen to. Call today and let's talk about how you can help bring a Pro Athlete to your area.

January 2010…Are we making a difference?

January 2010 is here and soon it will be gone!  I have just returned from a trip to Missouri where I was able to meet with several local businessmen in the southwest area of the state.  Once again I am humbled by the opportunity to meet men who are genuinely interested in the youth in their area and their futures!  This is where it all starts, with men whose hearts are tuned to the children of today who will be our leaders of tomorrow.  They want to make a difference in these young peoples lives; and they work hand in hand with Sports World to do so.

What are principals saying about our program?  “The pro focused on setting goals and having dreams.  He was a great motivator.  The students loved him!”  How are the students responding to the program and the pro?  “His talk inspired me to be a better person and respect my parents.”  “The stories have meaning and I’m starting to realize that I’m not making the right choices and I don’t have a good attitude about things.”

Are we making a difference?  Absolutely.  One school at a time.  We have reached well over 250,000 students so far this school year.  Come help us reach our goal of 507,300!  If you’re a school principal, call to see about scheduling in.  If you’re a local business person, call and we will be happy to plug you in to one of the most exciting organizations in our Nation!  Together we can continue to make a difference for the youth of America!

Jean Sample's Bio:

I came to SW in 1986 after having the opportunity to meet Doc Eshleman and Janet Schrecengost who were working out of the basement of our church. Doc inspired me with his vision for the former pro athlete to have the opportunity to speak to young people all across the nation. I always felt I was part of something really “big” even when working in a small corner of the basement. As the years have gone by, I have come to own Doc’s vision myself. It really is “big” to want to impact the youth of this country and give them hope for their futures. To tell them how valuable they are. How special they are in the eyes of God and others! Doc’s passion became mine. I feel I am exactly where I am meant to be and I am more than happy doing what I am doing. I am part of something BIG!
