April Blog - Region 5

I am very encouraged after my first month here at Sports World.  It has been a whirlwind of learning about my new position and getting an understanding of our mission field.  I have had the opportunity to meet many of the Northeast Region’s Team Captains and can honestly say that after each meeting, my enthusiasm and motivation continues to grow!

Along with our Team Captains, I have had a great opportunity to meet with the Pennsylvania National Guard’s Counterdrug program and their dynamic team of field personnel who spend their careers working in their community school programs to reach students and help them learn about the effects and dangers of drug and alcohol use.  They are a great team that demonstrate that our military is not only defending our nation and our borders, but they are working hard to protect our youth from local and internal challenges that they are facing.

As month one has now passed, I have gained a preliminary understanding of activities in the Northeast.  Our base of Team Captains and their Teams have provided a solid foundation of Outreach opportunities that will reach about 15,000 students this Fiscal Outreach year.  We were able to accomplish this with less than 10 Outreaches.  This means that with the growth of our program and the addition of more teams, we can significantly increase this number and grow our effective mission!  I will be praying and working very hard to seek and meet more team captains throughout the Northeast Region that can help us achieve our growth goals.

One thing that I have learned for sure this first month; there are a lot of kids out there that are hurting or are seeking a positive word of encouragement, a vision for their future, and something that tells them that they have what it takes to be successful.  What they need is a Message of Hope.

Thanks for all of your support!  Have a great day!

David Kominsky's Bio:

I joined Sports World in March, 2010 after participating in an Outreach in my area as a driver.  Recognizing the value of such a positive focus on children, the opportunity to join the organization and spend my time finding ways to reach out to more students was not a difficult decision.

My background is in sales management within the industrial distribution market in which I spent most of the past 18 years.  Although a rewarding career working with both sales professionals and customers, the transition from “selling stuff” to “reaching students” provides a different sense of fulfillment on the personal side!

The “Time is Now” for us to work as hard as we can reaching out to as many children as we can as the children in our communities are facing more challenges now than at any other time.  From peer pressures to simply the challenges of our economic  conditions, they need to hear positive encouragement and hear the message that they can accomplish anything that they can dream.  One of my favorite quotes from a teacher I had was, “If you believe, and you can conceive, you can achieve!”   The Sports World message lets kids know the same thing as well as offers other insights and motivations  into making positive choices along life’s journey.

My goal is to double the number of students that we reach in my region each of the next several semesters.  I simply encourage you that if you have a heart for children and want to make a difference, consider being a Team Captain or reach out to Sports World to learn what other opportunities you may be able to serve!

Have a Great day!
